How to Install Moose Pak Wall Decals

Take your time – Do not rush.

Moose Pak wall decals are an easy way to change and bring some fun to almost any interior environment. Be sure to apply your wall decals to a clean dry surface.

    Quick Tips

    1. If your wall paint is new, please wait at least 30 days to apply.

    2. Apply when the decals are at room temperature and after they have been laid flat for a few hours from shipping.

    3. All the decals you’ve received have 3 layers: on the very bottom is what we call the “backing paper” which right now touching the adhesive. The top layer is the “transfer tape” and it is kind of transparent. In the middle is the decal.

    4. You will need – • Scissors • Masking Tape • Level • Tape Measure

    5. First find the area where you want to place the wall decal. Wipe the wall down with a DRY cloth where the wall decal is to be placed. The vinyl will not stick if there is any dust or dirt on the surface. If the wall area is damp at all it, WILL NOT stick properly.

    POSITION PANELS ON WALL

Plan your design first.  Place all parts on the wall with painters’ tape starting with the middle panel if applicable, and make sure you like where they are positioned. If you are happy with the positioning of your panels, leave the middle one and remove the other two panels for now. We are getting ready to stick this panel to the wall.

Grab Painters tape and stick a horizontal line across the middle panel on the wall, make 2 lines of tape to make sure the panel is secured into place and won’t move during this process. With the panel secured to the wall, lift the upper part of the panel and gently pull the backing paper away, continue to release the backing paper until you reach the horizontal line of painter’s tape. While holding the transfer tape that also has the graphic attached to it, ask your helper to pass you the scissors and cut a straight line across the backing paper, make sure you do not cut the transfer tape and the decal. Then discard the white paper.

Once the white backing is removed, be careful not to let the adhesive side of the decal fold on itself. Using both hands, hold the edges of the transfer tape and place both edges of the decal on the wall making sure it is tight and straight. Smooth the entire decal to the wall with a squeegee or credit card from center to sides, and then go over it with your hands to really seal it. Now remove the blue painter’s tape, remove the rest of the backing paper and smooth down the decal onto the wall.

Now, slowly pull up an edge of the transfer tape and peel away at a 45-degree angle along the face of the decal. If any of the decal sticks to the clear tape, stop pulling and re-press the decal and then continue to slowly peel away the transfer tape.

If applicable bring on the other panels, either side, and repeat the previous steps until finished.

With the dry towel, gently smooth out the wall decal starting from the middle and working your way out.

  • How to Install a Car Decal

    Items Needed
    Decal
    Ruler
    Masking Tape
    Cleaning Solution
    Paper Towels
    Straight Edge

    Application Steps
    1. Clean the area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or soap and water. Do not use a glass cleaner because it will leave a residue behind that will prevent the sticker from adhering well.

    2. Rub a squeegee or credit card firmly across the sticker through the clear transfer tape to prepare it for application. This ensures the sticker will cling to the transfer tape and removes any air bubbles that may have formed.

    3. Peel the white paper backing off the sticker. If the sticker clings to the backing, slowly replace the paper backing and repeat

    4. Slowly lower the sticker onto the surface and rub it in place firmly with a squeegee or credit card. For best results, wait 24 hours before moving to the next step.
Slowly peel the clear transfer tape off at an angle. Be careful not to pull the sticker off the surface.

    Tips
    • Larger Decal Installation: We recommend a friend to assist you. With the backing paper still on, affix your decal into your desired position by putting masking tape along the length of an edge of your decal. This becomes a hinge. Flip the decal over along this hinge. Carefully peel off the backing paper entirely. Now lift the end of the transfer layer (opposite the hinge) with one hand, while using a card or squeegee with your other hand to rub the decal firmly onto your surface. Then remove the transfer layer and enjoy. All that should remain on your surface is the car decal.

  • How to Apply Vinyl Boat Decals

    Tools Needed
    • Moose Pak Vinyl Decal
    • Flexible plastic squeegee
    • 70-percent isopropyl alcohol wipe/spray bottle
    • Microfiber towels
    • Tape measure
    • Grease pencil
    • Painters Masking tape

Choose a calm day with air temperatures above 55 degrees Fahrenheit to apply the decal. At cold temperatures, the vinyl can become brittle, and the adhesive characteristics of both the vinyl and the transfer tape also change.

Start by washing the application surface with soap and water, rinse liberally with water, and dry with a clean towel to avoid water spots. Next, wipe with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution across the entire area and wipe it down with a clean microfiber towel to remove any wax, grease or oil from the application surface.

Use a tape measure find the center of the area where you want to apply the decal and mark it with a grease pencil above the application area. The vinyl graphic you ordered will come sandwiched between backing paper and transfer paper. Lightly fold it in half lengthwise; the crease will indicate the vertical center of the decal. Align the crease with the mark on the hull and roughly position the decal with pieces of masking tape.

Once happy with the positioning, run a long piece of masking tape across the top edge of the decal paper. Slowly star to peel away the backing paper from the top, allowing the decal to lightly adhere as you pull down on the backing. If the decal wrinkles anywhere, gently pull it away with the transfer paper and smoothly put it back down. Press out air bubbles with the squeegee.

Remove the strip of masking tape at the top, then peel off the transfer paper, beginning at the upper left corner, pulling gently at a downward angle.

For added protection use a Seal-It-Pen along the edges of the decal to help prevent the vinyl from peeling or lifting.

  • How to Measure Properly

Posted on by Moose Pak LLC

It is important to measure correctly to align your vinyl decal properly on your surface. First, never measure from the backing paper. In most cases the backing paper (edge of the paper) is cut by hand and is certainly not going to be perfectly straight! Always measure from your graphic!

  • Seal-It-Pen Tip

Using a Seal-It-Pen along the edges of a decal helps prevent the vinyl from peeling or lifting. While this colorless adhesive dries in 15 minutes, it is best to wait 48 hours for the adhesive in the vinyl decal to fully cure before you go out again

    How to remove wall decals

    You will need:
    Hairdryer
    Patience
    All Purpose Cleaner

Removing a vinyl wall decal that’s been on the wall for a while will be easier if you loosen it first by applying heat

Turn on your hairdryer at the lowest setting to begin with. Start with a small corner section of the decal, holding the hairdryer between five and eight inches away from the wall. When it feels warm to the touch, stop – if the adhesive heats up too much it could become tacky and may not come away when you remove the vinyl wall decal.

Now gently peel back a corner of the decal. It should come easily away from the wall; if it doesn’t, bring the hairdryer back for a few more seconds and try again. Continue peeling the decal off the wall, applying the heat from the hairdryer to each section as needed. Work slowly to avoid causing damage to the paint underneath.
